The people of Europe have a long-standing love of zoo’s and menagerie’s and here in America we carry on that tradition. The keeping of exotic animals dates back to Egypt in approximately 1500 BC. The gathering and keeping of animals became popular in England beginning around 1204, when King John I kept such a collection. America’s first two zoos are still in operation the Central Park Zoo which opened in 1859, and The Philadelphia Zoo which opened in 1874.

The Bronx Zoo, in New York is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States and is located within the confines of Bronx Park. The zoo spans 265 acres, and is composed of beautiful park lands and natural habitats. This zoo has over 4,000 animals of approximately 650 species.

The Columbus Zoo, in Columbus, Ohio offers more than just animals, sporting a water park, golf resort and amusement park. The zoo is home to around 7,000 animals from over 700 species. This zoo has earned worldwide respect and admiration under the loving guidance of animal expert Jack Hanna.

The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska opened in 1894 as the Riverview Park Zoo, and is still in operation today. With the large saltwater aquarium, expansive aviary, the desert dome and kingdoms of the night exhibits this zoo offers unique opportunities for visitors.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida is a zoo and theme park rolled into one. Disney has kept true to the zoo idea offer visitors plenty of animal kingdom wonders to enjoy. The park also offers a variety of rides and speculative exhibits.

San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California is famous for its immense size and the variety of animals on display. This zoo is known as America’s most modern zoo establishment and is home to one of the worlds four a Giant Panda exhibits.
